If you need to travel far from home such as going hometown, backpacking ,etc..you should maintain your motorbike before departure. Motorbike maintenance is extremely important to help you detect and fix in time the problem of your bike, thereby make it more durable. This article based on our experience in motorbike that gives you a maintenance checklist
When do you need maintain a bike?
Regular motorcycle maintenance plays an important role because it affects the safety and durability of the vehicle. This is determined by the number of kilometers or use of months. If you need to go far, not just inspect periodically but before each departure to ensure safety. According to the advice of experts, to ensure safety and avoid minor problems, motorbikes need to be inspected every 4 months. When the motorcycle has run from 2,000-3,000km, you should change the oil or water. About the motorcycle maintenance process will be carried out for the frame, engine and transmission system.
You need to check the rims, spokes, front/rear suspensions, the front/back brakes and the cables, grease the moving parts, maintain the throttle as well.
Regarding the engine, you need to clean the carburetor , and the air filter, clean sparkling plugs, adjust clutch lever and add water to recharge the battery. .) and change the engine oil.
For an fuel injection (FI) motorcycle, you need to inspect and clean the injectors, or replace the fuel pump filter (if necessary), inspect the operation of the sensors, check the rear brake, grease the arms, check the electric starter, tighten all the screws on the chassis system.
Which bike’s parts should be maintained?
Here are the parts you need to maintain regularly
Changing the oil
The oil in the engine, if it runs for a long time, the quality will be lower gradually. You need to change the engine oil about every 1000 km. This is essential to keep the bike running smoothly. You should also change the oil after the bike gets flooded.
Changing brake fluid is also important. Brake pads help the bike decelerate, so it will wear out over time. Worn out brake pads are considered the cause of warped brake discs. In the long time, if you don’t replace a new pad, I may have to replace a new brake disc.
Brake fluid can be contaminated with impurities that produce air bubbles during operation, reducing braking efficiency or making brakes hard and jerky. You should inspect replace brake pads, change brake fluid every 15,000 – 20,000 km.
Spark plugs
The spark plug is a fundamental component of your bike’s ignition system. This spark ignites the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber, causing an explosion that starts the engine power stroke. If the plugs are damaged, you may not be able to start your motorcycle at all. Worn out spark plugs are the cause of bad ignition, not ensure the smooth running of the engine , and lots of fuel consumption. Every 10,000 km, you should inspect and replace a new spark plug.
Gear oil
Gear oil normally reduce less than engine oil. However, you also need to change the gear oil periodically, every 3 times changing the engine oil, you should change gear oil once. If the gear oil is dry, dirty, that make noise and reduce the efficiency of the transmission system. When the condition is worse, it will break the gear and lose transmission.
Air filter
Air filters prevent dust, dirt or other physical contaminants from making their way into your engine. In case if a clogged air filter could result in bad fuel consumption, reduced efficiency of the engine and make it cut out or stalling. You should choose the right type of air filter to replace. Air filters are often overlooked when servicing motorcycles, especially when they are in hard to reach places. It is better to inspect the air filter every 10,000 km.
Belts (Automatic scotter)
About Automatic Scooters, drive belts are definitely cleaner and hassle-free compared to the link-chain of gear bikes. But to inspect the belt’s condition, it is not as easy as the chain. Here we give you some hints to know when the drive belt is worn out or before being broken. If you see these symptoms of the bike, apparently you need to replace a new belt: Sluggish drive, lower top speed, abnormal noise. Or manufacturers are recommending to change periodically 20,000 Kms.
Cooling water
Today, most scooters use a liquid cooling system. If the motorbike loses too much cool water, it makes engine to overheat, which may seriously break the engine block. Therefore, you should also check the coolant for your bike, periodically about 10,000 km/time, especially after a long ride throughout hills.
